I was eating and wondered why it was considered rude to put your elbows on the table.

This is the first site I came across.

Actually, after reading that blog I decided to write this entry, so it was the first and last I came across.

"elbows on the table violate a hygiene taboo. “You don’t do it for the same reason you never put your purse on the table. Hygienically speaking, the table needs to stay as clean as possible. The more body parts on the table accompanying your food, the less hygienic it is.”"

At first I was gonna write about how one's forearms take up more space than elbows, but then I saw this ,"In fact, it’s OK to rest your forearms on the edge of the table."

blahblahblah

I'm going to make lunch.

i'd rather eat with a bowl right under my chin, just spooning food into my mouth. perfect. i don't put any body parts in the bowl i eat out of, or the plate i eat off of, so there is no hygiene problem.

I used to hate when people put their elbows on the table but it was because it otok up some of MY room, and it would piss me off to be bumping into someone while trying to eat.

I try not to eat with my elbows on the table, just because my former best friend's uncle was crazy about that and I was afraid of him.

Doesn't seem like it ought to be an issue unless you're eating at a kiddie-sized table though.
